Infrared Sauna Heaters: Ceramic vs. Carbon Infrared Heaters

One of the most important things to research when buying an infrared sauna is the type of infrared heating technology that is used within the sauna. The two main types of heating elements used in infrared saunas today are carbon and ceramic. There are many companies who claim that their heaters are the best and  give you the best infrared health benefits. This makes it very difficult to choose the right one. I have put together an analysis of the benefits of each heater, so you will have a better idea to which infrared sauna is right for you.

Carbon Infrared Heaters

These heaters are fairly new on the market when compared to ceramic. These heaters are usually flat and made of carbon fiber panels that are lighter and more durable. Due to the lightweight material and the lower surface temperature, these heaters are often larger on size. Many infrared sauna manufactures have switched to this type of heater because they are more cost effective, since they are cheaper to produce. The main benefit of carbon infrared heat is that they have a lower surface temperature, which creates a longer infrared wavelength. However,  the infrared heat it produces is usually not hot enough to heat the sauna cabin. I have compared the two heater types and this is true. You really don’t sweat enough in this type of infrared sauna, and sweating is the most important part of detoxification.

Ceramic Infrared Heater

These heaters have been used in infrared saunas for years. Ceramic is a very efficient and effective element, and when heated it produces an infrared wavelength that is in the optimal micron range for the human body. While the infrared wavelength is not as long as the one created from carbon based heaters due to a slightly higher surface temperature. It is still efficient enough to get all the great benefits from the infrared heat. The best benefit when comparing it to carbon, is that it produces a lot of infrared heat. This allows it to heat the air in the sauna, which promotes sweating, as well as heat the body from the infrared rays. I feel that ceramic infrared heaters are one of the best ways to get the most out of an infrared sauna.

Combination Carbon/Ceramic Infrared Heater

I have found one company that actually produces infrared sauna heaters that use both carbon and ceramic heating elements in their heaters. They claim that this is their patented technology, and I have yet to see another company that offers infrared sauna heaters like them. The company is called Clearlight Infrared Sauna.

I hope this helps in making a better decision. Just remember to do as much research as you can. I know that good information is hard to come by, so I will make it a point to continue to add as much useful information as I can.
